Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

The frequency of my posts here over the past few years has been tragic… But you know what they say: Better late than never. So, I’m bringing you impressions from an event that took place this April. Hold on to your hats and don’t jump into the nearest rabbit hole, because I’m now bringing you a report!

Should I keep it brief or write it longer? Does anyone even still enjoy reading blog posts, especially long ones? I have a tendency to write unnecessarily long blog posts, but I’ll try to keep it under control, I promise!
It was autumn 2023. In Prague, we were enjoying a Halloween meetup at the Mad Rabbit café. I discovered this place by a pure chance. It is a charming place in “Alice in Wonderland” style with lots of decoration. The food and drinks were excellent. Right after the meetup, I asked the cafe manager If it would be possible to make a reservation for at least 30 people, how much it would cost, and if catering would be available too. I got a positive response, the price was reasonable for Prague, so I decided to go for it! Planning another big tea party in my homeland after a long Covid break our community deserved a properly organised fancy event!

You probably won’t be interested in the details of organizing such an event. Shortly, It was incredibly demanding and stressful, but worth it. But… FOR THE FIRST AND LAST TIME, I DRAGGED ALL THE STUFF TO SUCH AN EVENT BY TRAIN!!!! WITH ALL THOSE BAGS! That was such a stupid idea, ugh… but with the help of friends, I somehow brought all the stuff to the destination. Here are some “behind the scenes” photos, lol…

As for the organization itself, I had great help from Verča and Anet. Thanks to them, the event turned out so well. More than 30 people from the Czech, Austrian, and German communities attended, which was kinda unexpected so I had to reorganise everything, spoke with the people from our comm and after their approvement I changed the whole event into the English language. As a one community, united by our passion for Lolita fashion, It didn’t even matter we are from different countries, so there was definitely no silence. For each guest, we prepared a tote bag with original art drawn by Anet (Instagram here), “Wonderland” themed pins, and other small gifts, and for VIP guests, mugs with art from Klárka (Instagram here), which also appeared on the event’s social media and other places.

First, we needed to break the ice between all the guests by mixing them into teams randomly. I felt a bit sorry for the introverts who suddenly found themselves in a new group, but hey… we needed to break the ice and group games like this always work well.

Our competition tournament consisted of several disciplines -> a word puzzle, a quick knowledge quiz, waistties tying game, and building a tower from cards. The winning team took home a prize and a good feeling from winning, and we could move on to the next part of the program. In the meantime, of course, we ate all the excellent food that the café staff had carefully prepared for us. The macarons disappeared practically immediately even though there were 120 of them! Luckily, there was enough food that some people were able to take leftovers for their train journey back home.

The event was photographed by Michal Kára, and I’m sharing his photos here because it would be a shame not to show them. The whole album is also on the event’s website. I hope Michal will photograph our future events as well because working with him was very pleasant and the photos are beautiful.

In the end, it was time for a raffle, with prizes donated by several Czech and international indie brands. I mentioned all of them on the website, and once again, a huge thank you to them for donating us all the beautiful prizes!

And what are my thoughts from the event? Despite all the exhaustion, I felt kinda great… I was thrilled that people from foreign communities outside of the Czech Republic were interested in the event and, most importantly, that they attended the tea party. Our newcomers and long-time community members who might not travel to foreign tea parties had the chance to meet other new people. It was an experience for me and, I think, for our community as well. Although we didn’t have a tea party with a fashion show and a brand as a guest, we still tried to make the high-quality event full of friendly atmosphere and delicious food, and I hope we succeeded. I have beautiful memories from the event, even though it was very quick… I just came to the café and suddenly it was the end of the event. At least there are those photos to help me remember all those amazing memories…

And what did I wear… A few days before the tea party, thanks Anet I got enough motivation and sewed a Necropolis JSK. I’ve had the design in mind for a while, so I knew exactly what to do. It was the first seamless fabric sample, so it was more grayish than black. Even so, I decided to wear the dress for the event. I wasn’t sure about what blouse colourway. I wanted something to sparkle it up a bit so black wasn’t an option there. I chose a burgundy combination, and to my surprise, it looked really nice together. I did my makeup with little heart shapes using red eyeshadows and glitter and it was done! My Red Queen-inspired coord for a tea party…

COORD RUNDOWN
blouse: Atelier Pierrot
OTKs: Enchanted Dream Couture
shoes: Aliexpress
JSK, headpiece: Sleeping Doll
accessories: Enchanted Dream Couture, Le Petit Four, Sleeping Doll

In the same month as the tea party, it was also my birthday, but of course, I didn’t mention it before. It was somewhat intentional, to have a tea party for my birthday and spend it with people who share the same passion for J fashion. And what about you? Have you been to a tea party? How did you enjoy it? What would you change or keep to make it better next time?

In October, I’ll be attending a tea party in Germany, so maybe I’ll write a report from there too. I really should take more photos like I always did. That’s something I struggle with right now…

And with that, we’ve reached the end. I really tried to keep the blog post short XD. I’d be happy if you left a comment here. Maybe it will motivate me to write more often
See you next time! Yuki ❤️
